Rhabdomyolysis

Summary of this flowchart.
Depletion of ATP intracellular leads to increased cytoplasmic Ca from Sarcolesma. Increased Intracelluar Ca activates Ca dependent proteases and phospolipases leading to destruction of myofibrillar, cytoskeletal and membrane proteins. Eventually, Lysosome digest the fiber content. Ultimately, myofibrillar network breaks down, and disintegration of myocyte occurs. As described in NEJM 2009

Overall, note there are 8 major categories. This Table better subdivides these 8 categories. Genetic defects is better illustrated in NEJM table.

This NEJM paper has a better organization of genetic causes that leads to Rhabdomyolysis. Overall, note there are 8 major categories. The above Table better subdivides these 8 categories
